Bridal shoes vs party shoes
Brides often choose two different pairs of shoes—one for the ceremony and one for the reception/party—mainly for comfort and practicality. Here’s how the heel height typically differs:
Ceremony shoes
- Usually higher (commonly 3–4 in / 7–10 cm).
- Chosen for the formal look and to complement the gown’s hemline and posture.
- Often more delicate—think stilettos or elegant pumps.
Party / reception shoes
- Lower heel or flats (about 0–2.5 in / 0–6 cm).
- Prioritize dancing and long hours of standing.
- Can be stylish block heels, wedges, chic flats, or even sneakers.
Tip:
When you switch to lower shoes, the dress hem will drop slightly—sometimes ½–1 inch (1–2 cm) or more. If the gown is floor-length, ask your seamstress to account for the lowest heel you plan to wear so you won’t trip after changing shoes.
